Regarding Side Job Request Letter

At the University of Tokyo, faculty members are required to obtain prior permission to engage in activities outside his/her professional activity as a professor, in accordance with the permission criteria set forth in the university’s internal regulations.
Therefore, a request letter to the Dean of School of Science with the information below is necessary from the requesting organization.

  • Name, address, and short description of the organization
  • Position and services the professor will retain
  • Term
  • Compensation

Commissioning period and starting date

In principle, within 2 years. If the term of office is stipulated in laws and regulations (including employment regulations and internal rules), the term is up to 4 years.
The approval and start of the appointment will be made at the monthly meeting. If you indicate “from the date of approval” as the start date in the letter of appointment, the start date will normally be from the date of the meeting. Please note that we may not be able to meet your request for the start date.
