EPS Department recommends students and researchers to purchase insurance dependng on the nature of academic and research activities in addition to “Personal Accident Insurance for Student Pursuing Education and Research (Gakkensai)“.
Obligatory Insurance for All Students
All students of the University of Tokyo (incl. research students) are obligated to have “Personal Accident Insurance for Student Pursuing Education and Research (Gakkensai)“. This insurance covers physical disabilities occurred due to accidents occurred during research and education activities, and insurance premium is paid by the University of Tokyo. The activities include not only lectures, experiments, exercies, but also fieldwork related to thesis, and commuting as well.
Insurance for Academic and Research Overseas Travel
EPS students are obligated to purchase overseas travel accident insurance which covers accidents during the trip in addition to Personal Accident Insurance for Student PUrsuing Education and Research (Gakkensai).
“Liability Insurance coupled with “Gakkensai”” covers damages or injuries you incautiously inflicted on other things or people.
You must have this insurance to conduct research activities at JAXA Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS).
Pay insurance premium (1 year: JPY340, 2 years: JPY680, 3 years: JPY 1020) at School of Science Office (Room 275, 2F, East Bldg., Faculty of Science Bldg. 1)
*Insurance Period is 2 years for M1 and 3 years for D1 students.
*Make sure to buy accident insurance for academic observatory and fieldwork activities. “Personal Accident Insurance for Student Pursuing Education and Research (Gakkensai)” does not cover rescue cost or belongings.
“Personal Accident Insurance for Student Pursuing Education and Research (Gakkensai)” and “Liability Insurance coupled with “Gakkensai”” does not cover sickness and other private life accidents. To have a broader coverage for private life in general, “Student Comprehensive Mutual Insurance” which covers private activities, trips and other for 24 hours, is recommended.
